As the Official Fresh Food Partner of international handball tournaments, Lidl supports peak performance on the court while championing equality, sporting excellence and the development of young talent. A particular focus is placed on women’s handball and the next generation of promising athletes.
When the arena comes alive, drums set the rhythm and every move on the court counts, handball becomes a stage for peak performance and unforgettable moments. At international tournaments such as the IHF Women’s World Championship 2025 and the Men’s EHF EURO 2026, it’s about more than just titles. It’s about visibility – for the athletes and for a sport that continues to inspire growing audiences. This is where Lidl plays an active role: as Official Fresh Food Partner providing healthy refreshments during tournaments, and as a partner committed to youth development and equality in elite sport.
Peak performance starts with nutrition. As a food retailer, Lidl is ideally positioned to promote conscious nutrition and an active lifestyle. In the Lidl Fan Zones at the arenas, #teamlidl employees provide players, teams, volunteers and fans with fresh fruit, drinks and nuts from Lidl’s own Alesto brand. Across the IHF Women’s World Championship 2025 and the Men’s EHF EURO 2026, a total of 14 tonnes of fresh fruit, 4.6 tonnes of nuts and dried goods, and 28,500 litres of water and smoothies were distributed.
For many fans – especially families and children – these offerings send an important message: conscious nutrition is an essential part of sport. Lidl brings this message directly to where emotions, movement and community come together – at the heart of the tournaments.
Lidl’s commitment goes beyond fresh energy – it is about real empowerment. By supporting these tournaments, Lidl helps bring top-level sporting performance, particularly by female athletes, into the international spotlight. The matches clearly demonstrate how dynamic, powerful and high-performing modern women’s handball is – and the strong role model effect it creates. By supporting both women’s and men’s competitions with equal recognition and celebrating athletic performance regardless of gender, Lidl contributes to meaningful visibility – in the stands, in the media and among young people who dream of competing at the highest level.
One of the most emotional moments of the tournaments is the presentation of the Best Young Player Award Presented by Lidl. When young athletes step onto the podium, it is often their first major international recognition. Applause from the stands, proud teammates and a moment in the spotlight: particularly in women’s handball, the award sends a powerful message. Young players see that their achievements matter – and that there are role models to look up to.
"Football, handball and cycling are sports that create connection and exchange – and bring people together and inspire them. That is exactly what we aim to promote. This is why our sports partnerships are so essential to us. We firmly believe that an active lifestyle and physical activity, together with healthy nutrition, are key to a healthy and fulfilling life."
Building on the successful concept of the UEFA Women’s EURO 2025™, the Lidl Youth Camp – held as part of the Men’s EHF EURO 2026 – places a clear focus on the next generation. Young people aged 13 to 14 are given the opportunity to experience sport, nutrition and healthy habits in a practical, hands-on way. Alongside technical skills, the emphasis is on teamwork, motivation and self-confidence. The Lidl Youth Camp creates lasting experiences and shows young people how enjoyable an active lifestyle can be.
From international tournaments and awards for young talent to dedicated youth programmes, Lidl demonstrates what sponsorship can look like when it goes beyond visibility. A form of sponsorship that promotes sporting excellence, strengthens equality and supports and inspires young people – both on and off the court.
