Promoting Health

Empowering our customers to make conscious choices

Feeding a growing global population requires the efficient use of agricultural land as well as the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and diet-related diseases. Due to our market position in food retail, we systematically steer our offering to set new impulses in trade. Through the continuous expansion of our range of plant-based foods, we offer our customers the choice to make decisions that are, moreover, often lower in emissions.

Our goal is to promote a conscious diet that is increasingly based on plant-based products and takes into account the environmental impact of food production. We align our assortment with the guiding principles of the Planetary Health Diet, which recommends a higher proportion of plant-based foods such as wholegrains, vegetables, legumes, nuts and fruit, alongside a reduced consumption of animal-based products. Accordingly, we are continuously developing our private label range. In this way, we contribute to a diet that benefits individuals, the planet and future generations.

Progress to date

On the path to becoming the first choice for conscious nutrition

In recent years, we have made significant progress towards more conscious consumption. Our private labels play a central role, and we are setting benchmarks for greater transparency, responsibility and informed choices in everyday life.

In many countries, we offer more than 650 plant-based alternatives under our Vemondo private label* and are continuously expanding our range with additional vegetarian and vegan products – alongside our comprehensive offering of plant-based foods such as fruit and vegetables. Across our entire assortment, Lidl offers more than 1,000 vegan products.

* Under the Vemondo private label, most Lidl countries offer vegan products. In some countries, the range may also include vegetarian products that can contain ingredients such as dairy milk.
