Acting Fairly

United for greater fairness and equity

We are convinced that economic success is ultimately linked to social responsibility.  Fairness, equal opportunities, respect and a culture of appreciation and solidarity form the foundation of a sustainable society. And we know that achieving great things requires a strong team and strong partners. That is why we are committed to responsible interaction – both within #teamlidl and across our entire value chain.

Going beyond compliance with legally enshrined labour rights, we are committed to creating a working environment in which our employees feel valued and can realise their full potential. In selected Lidl countries with high-risk supply chains, we advocate for improved working and living conditions through targeted initiatives – from fair wages and occupational safety to the elimination of child labour. In addition, we are committed to animal welfare and work closely with our suppliers to improve the conditions under which animal-based products are produced.

Our responsibility does not end with legal requirements. We deliberately go beyond minimum standards and work on solutions that deliver long-term impact and create real social value.

Our ambition

Our responsibility is reflected in how we treat people – both within our company and along our supply chains. That is why we are committed to creating good working conditions, fostering diversity and protecting human rights, while working together with our partners to develop solutions that stand the test of time.

Progress to date

We are on the right track

We are consistently committed to greater fairness and transparency – both in our dealings with employees and within our supply chain. In doing so, we follow clear standards and make our progress measurable and transparent.

Based on the German Supply Chain Due Diligence Act (LkSG), we conduct an annual systematic risk analysis for all direct suppliers. Indications of potential human rights risks are also assessed on an ad hoc basis as part of ongoing risk analyses. As early as 2020, we became the first German retailer to begin conducting Human Rights Impact Assessments (HRIAs) in particularly high-risk supply chains. This allows us to systematically assess how our business activities affect human rights. Our aim is to identify risks, prevent or mitigate negative impacts, and ensure transparency in our approach.

Our spotlights

Small actions, big impact

It is often the concrete, everyday actions that make the difference. Our spotlights show how we at Lidl take responsibility for tomorrow – in a practical, effective and hands-on way.
