Between 2019 and 2024, we have already reduced more than 40% of our operational emissions across all countries.
The climate crisis affects us all. Rising sea levels and coastal erosion are reducing habitats for people, animals and plants, while ocean warming and acidification are threatening marine ecosystems. This has direct consequences for global food systems, Lidl’s supply chains and, ultimately, global food security. Extreme weather events such as heavy rainfall and flooding can also pose risks to our sites, warehouses and stores.
The future therefore belongs to an economy that operates within planetary boundaries – one that is more resource-efficient and climate-friendly. To help shape this transition, we focus on renewable energy, the protection and restoration of natural habitats, and the responsible use of resources. Our goal is to reduce emissions and actively contribute to limiting global warming.
At the same time, we recognise that economic activity always has an impact on the climate and the environment. This makes it all the more important to set science-based climate targets that significantly limit global temperature rise and align with the goals of the Paris Agreement. Lidl’s climate strategy involves thousands of suppliers across more than 30 Lidl countries. In addition, efficiency improvements and investments in innovation support us in achieving our climate targets. In this way, we are contributing to greater sustainability in the food retail sector.
We want to lead with confidence and take real responsibility for the climate. Together with our partners and employees, we are committed to reducing emissions across our entire value chain.
We are continuously working to make our operational processes more climate-friendly – from the energy consumption of our buildings to store deliveries. Across all areas, we are implementing targeted measures to reduce emissions and achieve our climate goals.

It is often the concrete, everyday actions that make the difference. Our spotlights show how we at Lidl take responsibility for tomorrow – in a practical, effective and hands-on way.
